The majority of dispatches by all alarm companies are false alarms. We are committed to keeping false dispatches to a minimum. The police, the fire department, and the ambulance services in our communities are valuable, and we never want to misuse those on false dispatches. Some municipalities even pass along the costs of false alarms by charging homeowners or businesses who abuse their services with excessive nuisance alarms. Please help us minimize the cost of false dispatches by educating yourself on the proper use of your system. We have adopted the recommended Enhanced Call Verification rules and will call you on at least two numbers before we dispatch local authorities.

You must contact your local municipality to become familiar with and comply with any regulations, permits, or registration requirements. All registration fees and false alarm fines are your responsibility.

COMMON CAUSES OF FALSE ALARMS

  • Incorrect user codes
  • Untrained alarm users (employees, children, house guests)
  • Open, unlocked, loose, or defective doors and windows
  • Wandering or unsecured pets
  • Improper use of entry/exit delays
  • Items that can move, fall, or blow in the wind (fans, balloons, drapes, plants, insects) too near a motion detector
  • Nonfunctional equipment (low batteries, damaged, or faulty)
  • Bad weather, such as strong winds, lightning, and thunder (although this is rare, strong winds have been known to blow even secure doors enough to cause false alarms)

TIPS TO AVOID FALSE ALARMS

  • Know how to properly cancel an alarm signal and dispatch
  • Make sure everyone who has access to the premise knows their assigned user code and verbal password
  • Properly train all those who have access to the home on proper use
  • Use the mobile app for easiest control of your system
  • Secure all doors and windows properly, especially if they are loose fitting
  • Keep pets away from armed motion detectors
  • Know your entry and exit times (they can be adjusted as needed)
  • Ensure that any movement or drafts are not in the path of motion detectors
  • Quickly repair or replace equipment that has known issues
  • Regularly test all equipment for proper function
  • Notify us of any changes to your home phone service, remodeling, or new pets
